Career Fields: Know Your Roots

The last two blog entries we talked about some of the career fields options for when you have a degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies. For this blog, we're gonna do it again! This time, it's all about my first love. History.

This field of study is the main reason as to why I chose Social Studies as my major. The opportunity to become part of the people that act to preserve history is a very alluring prospect for me. That's why if I ever chose not to pursue a career in teaching, I would be in one of these five fields.

1) Archivist

An Archivist's job is to assist people in obtaining and preserving original materials. They frequently use computer records, films, maps, paper documents, as well as photographs in their work. These professionals, who are often referred to as the custodians of society's memory, also collaborate with other professionals to exploit and maximize synergies between archive collections.

2) Historian

Historians are academic professionals who collect, study, and interpret past events. They are likely the first on my list of post-graduation career options. They frequently conduct research on a diverse range of people, places, times, and events. Professionals in this field frequently have a specialized area of interest, which can range from a single event to a more extensive period in history.

Historians frequently work with archival sources, books, and materials, making them a good candidate for archivist work.

3) Librarian

Librarians are highly trained professionals in information science who operate and organize a variety of libraries, making them the third cataloguing job on this list. They are in charge of managing library staff, organizing books and other media collections, assisting customers, and researching potential trends that can make reading more enjoyable for everyone.

4) Museum Curator

Have you been to a museum? If you answered yes, you have seen how the collections are organized and set up so that you can get the most out of your visit. That is the responsibility of Museum Curators. They are in charge of the museum's exhibitions and educational programs. This is an ideal career for anyone with a BSED - Social Studies degree because it combines everything you learned in school with the possibility of teaching with the exhibitions you planned and developed.

5) Anthropologist

Are you curious about the many different aspects of human experience? Then you should consider a career as an anthropologist. These professionals study the past to learn about how human groups lived thousands of years ago and what was important to them. However, if you want to pursue this career field in the future, you should take additional courses in school because the field of Anthropology has its own subfields. As a result, more study and research are required.

That's all there is to it! These are five additional career paths that a Social Studies Major Graduate can pursue as a member of the workforce. These are all interesting job opportunities that I can see myself doing well in. I hope you can imagine yourself in it as well. Thank you!
