Career Fields: Nation Building
“A person who does not remember where they came from will never reach their destination." -- Filipino Proverb
In this entry, I would like to give focus on some careers that are primarily concerned on the development and growth of our nation, the Philippines.
1) Economist
Economics is one of the many subjects included in the field of social studies. Graduates of the Social Studies Major are well-versed in basic economic concepts as well as some advanced theories.
Economists analyze employment, worker productivity, and wage data. This great
ly assists government agencies and legislators in assessing the economic impact of behaviors and policies. Economists can also assist businesses in determining consumer demand and setting service pricing.
So, if you are interested in analyzing resources, manufacturing goods and services, consumer behavior, and are good with numbers, this profession may be for you.
2) Data Analyst
Data analysts assist numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations in making judgments by working in a variety of industries. They have the ability to plan and carry out surveys, analyze data, come to conclusions, and produce reports and suggestions based on their findings.
Social studies majors are trained to analyze and interpret data on a daily basis. A background in social studies prepares those who want to work as data analysts to conduct research and interpret the results.
3) Political Scientist
Politics is another subject that falls under the broad umbrella of social studies. As social studies graduates, we should be involved in the workings of our government and be aware of the changes and possible effects that occur within it.

4) Urban Planner
Students pursuing a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Studies degree at Philippine Christian University Dasmarinas Campus must take three Geography courses. These courses teach students how to interpret, evaluate, and implement plans for developing both natural and man-made landscapes.
Urban planners create and implement plans for developing neighborhoods, towns, cities and counties. From the road system, housing, transportation, waste disposal, and landscaping. They are in charge of assessing the needs of the community, research various aspects of the area, create and present their plans, and follow legal guidelines. Most work and collaborate with a team to keep track of progress and meet wirh representatives of each governmental department to discuss development.
5) Paralegal
Graduates with a social studies major can make excellent paralegals since they have the understanding of maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research, and assembling evidence for attorneys to review. They might research the facts of a case, seek for relevant laws and rules, and draft legal documents. They frequently set up client or witness depositions or interviews using their communication skills.
Being a paralegal can also be an excellent preparation for those who want to pursue a more serious career in the legal field.
A Social Studies Graduate develops skills such as critical thinking, interpretation, timeline discernment, communication and speaking, writing and authoring, and a strong cultural sensitivity.
